Soap results with turmeric.

The results of using turmeric were surprising. While we often sprinkle turmeric on our foods to spice them up, turmeric can be used to spice up the colors in our soap as well.

I had recently used an amount of turmeric for it's color and mild exfoliating properties. The turmeric was originally a rusty orange color. (It was mixed together with a small amount of water to make it a paste that would mix easier in the process). When the turmeric/water paste was added into the mix, the catalyst (lye) immediately changed the turmeric's color into a dark purple! This can be seen here in this picture. Notice the top of the soap bar is a dark purple color. Contrast that to the rest of the soap bar's light orange color.
